*New* for Coaches
We are thrilled to announce our first Summer Intensive for Instructional Coaches!
*Applications open now - April 30th (at midnight)
Before applying, please read the information below.
WHAT IS IT?
The Summer Intensive is a condensed (21-hour) professional development opportunity tailored to DCPS Instructional Coaches. The intensive includes one Orientation and six classes. Classes happen every Friday for three hours. Click here for draft schedule.
Coaches will also have the opportunity to observe at least two DC Reading Clinic student sessions, but are not matched with a student themselves.
*The Summer 2021 intensive will be virtual. All classes will take place on Teams.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Accepted coaches commit to attending one orientation and six classes covering content from the Science of Reading. Classes occur once a week, on Fridays, for 3 hours. Each class contains a "connecting research to practice" section in which coaches have the opportunity to think through applying class content to current literacy structures at their school.
Coaches will be awarded DCPS Professional Learning Units for their seat time.
WHAT PREREQUISITES DO I NEED?
As long as you are a current DCPS elementary instructional coach and you want to learn research-based reading techniques, you can apply for the Summer Intensive. You will need to be coaching in a DCPS school setting the semester after the intensive to fulfill the requirements.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
The chief benefit will be learning Science of Reading content to share with teachers and ultimately impact literacy growth at your school. If you've struggled, like so many of us, learning the information and tools to support teachers as they help struggling readers, this program is for you!
